With a smile, the Prime Minister remarked, “When you take the catch, keep your eyes on the ball. After the catch, keep your eyes on the trophy.” Amanjot responded that it was a moment she would cherish forever.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur said meeting PM Modi was deeply emotional, recalling how the team had met him in 2017 after losing the ODI World Cup final. “That time we came close, but not as winners. Today, we are here as champions,” she said, expressing hope that India’s women will bring home many more trophies.
Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana said the Prime Minister’s encouragement means a lot to the players, adding that showing him the World Cup trophy was a proud moment. She highlighted how young girls across India are excelling in sports thanks to continued motivation from national leaders.
Player of the Tournament Deepti Sharma also expressed her excitement, sharing that PM Modi mentioned her Bhagwan Hanuman tattoo and her post saying “Jai Shri Ram.” Deepti said her faith gives her strength in pressure situations.
PM Modi also recalled Harleen Deol’s memorable 2021 boundary catch, appreciating the consistency, effort, and spirit of the team.
Encouraging the players to promote the Fit India Movement, PM Modi urged them to inspire schoolchildren — especially young girls — to stay active and healthy. He emphasized the need to fight rising obesity through sports and fitness.
